What is reverse type? ... Peggy uses white type on a dark green background - perfectly readable.
Now if she had used COURIER font, which I loathe, well, then ...
One solution is reading it in Google Reader - that's what I do with my friend Cat's blog so I don't have to deal with that giant blue eyeball looking at me ...
That's exactly what reverse type is--white type on a colored background.
And sure, it's a completely legitimate graphic design technique. Lots of designers love it. The problem is--and this is a potentially big problem if you want people to read your work--is that it slows readers down (and not in a good way, as you've given them extra work to do on the visual processing side of things).
I'd like to say that "it's just me," but I've been in the publishing business a long time and have had this conversation with a number of other editors and writers and, no, it's not just me. A lot of us are no longer willing to work that hard to wade through certain kinds of page design.
Great interview! I was able to find your book easily way out here in the Midwest. I enjoyed it so much that I bought a 2nd copy for a friend's birthday gift. You may be correct that you got a publishing deal due to your acting history, but I really don't think so. You are a very talented writer, and I just wanted you to know how much I enjoyed the book.
BTW, I apologize in advance if you ever read anything I wrote about my cats on my blog. Thankfully, you're surely far too busy to read about The Fur Bastard...

tried to read it, but....she uses reverse type. I despise reverse type with a passion.
