And the Ones that Mother Gives You Don't Do Anything at All

I looked in the dog's food bin and swore softly. Consort looked up.

"Problem?"

"It's just that we're out of the pill-pockets the dog likes."

We have reached the stage beyond domestication; domination.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go buy the desirable kind of pill-pockets.

  1. Wow. I can relate. I have one cat, Daisy, who has become addicted to Greenies. She gets some Greenies every day when I get home from work. If I don't dispense Greenies first thing when I walk in the door, she follows me around and "yells" at me. Seriously. I can't check the answering machine because she's so loud, I can't hear the messages. Heaven forbid we run out of Greenies. If we do, I must stop and get some before coming home because if I don't, she will make my life a living hell. I actually worry about it, if we're getting low. Sometimes I stop and ask myself who really runs our household. It might just be Daisy.

  3. I completely get it. My cat, Daisy is addicted to Greenies cat treats. When I get home at night, I have to give her some first thing or she follows me around and "yells" at me. If I choose to check the answering machine or answer the phone, I can't hear because she's too loud. She knows the sound of my car and waits by the door. If my husband gets home first, there is no such reaction. I give into this behavior because she wears me down. If we are out of Greenies, I don't come home until I have purchased a new supply. I, apparently, work for Daisy.

  4. Seriously? My dog lives for those duck pill pockets, which are the grossest things I think I've ever held in my hands, and that includes her poop.

  5. Re: domination -- I've realized that my life is like the movie "Groundhog Day," but instead of that scene where Bill Murray is continuously being woken up by the same song, it is always time for me to give the cat a pill. It's probably best if we pretend not to notice.
